Illustrator Insight – Dan Crisp
Top That! illustrator, Dan Crisp, reveals all and explains why he ended up pursuing a career as an illustrator.
Due to an overwhelming phobia of Public Speaking, in my early teens, I decided the best career path for me would be the solitary life of an Illustrator.
I think the fear began when I was about 8, in the school play, I was the back end of the Dragon. It was hot under the green blanket so we were all in our vests and undies. There was a bucket filled with torn paper on the stage; to put out the dragon's flames.
As the Dragon moved forward, my foot got stuck so I bent down to try to free myself from the bucket. The Dragon moved off stage. I was frozen in the spotlight, in my vest and grundies, with a bucket on my foot, on the last night, with the whole School, Teachers and Parents, ROARING with laughter at me.
Luckily I did not make use of the bucket.
Dan Crisp has illustrated two books for Top That! Publishing, 'Star of Wonder' and 'A Bright New Star'. Both books are in our magic light book series and feature an integral star shaped light that glows as the story is being read. Available to purchase on our website or through Amazon, the books are ideal bedtime stories in the lead up to Christmas.
HOT OF THE PRESS! Switching creative roles, Dan recently penned a hilarious new picture storybook entitled 'Pandamonium' that we will be publishing next Spring. Check back soon for a sneak preview of the cover!
